The ‘munch’ in the crunch.

Posted by admin on June 30, 2009

Ever had that rumbling feeling in your stomach during that late night movie out with your friends and family? Most of us today have the tendency to grab a packet of titbits as soon as this indulging feeling engulfs our mind and also our stomach, but many may not know the consequences that follow because of these late night snacks.

The constant longing for food by our brain and also stomach causes us to actually lose control of our principles and automatically causes us to head for the refrigerator and grab a whole bunch of snacks that we can gather into our arms. By consuming food at a time where the body and also digestion system is at a ‘shut down’ mode, these food substances are not properly digested and may eventually lead to severe consequences such as obesity, thus, leading to an unhealthy lifestyle.

Many would have taken the path most people have followed such as the late night visit to stalls, especially college students. But many seem to ponder after a few months where they went wrong in their daily diet, to eventually wake up one day and find out that their tummy is on the verge of breaking loose out of their shirts.

Weight has been a major issue for us, as more and more oily food and also 24 hour restaurants are being introduced into the society. These late night food frenzy that makes the restaurants money flow but our stomach’s grow, proves to us just how unhealthy our lifestyle is.

In view of this, preventive measures have to be taken to instill awareness into the community that weight matters in today’s globalized era and it should not be taken lightly.  For those who have already been going through this problem, and have been enlightened by the sheer truth of the effects of late night dining, do not be worried, as there are many weight loss programs and products such as Proactol and Zotrim for you to implement and thereby conquer your mind to lead a hale and hearty life.

Sweating Away the Pounds.

Munching away through your double cheeseburger with extra cheese and mustard, you tend to indulge into that overpowering taste that oozes into your taste buds overwhelming your senses and causes you to crave for that ever irresistible delicacy.

But have you ever thought of the side effects of these man-made marvels to your body, especially if they are consumed on a regular basis? The truth is you’ll eventually start to bloat up like a balloon and finally causing side effects such as obesity, high blood pressure and also diabetes.

Besides that, many who are overweight tend to go through low self-esteem and confidence. This unhealthy way of life has to be put on hold to increase productivity and also health awareness among us.

One such way that has been implemented and also pursued by many around the world is exercise. Exercise can be considered the magic wand that does away with excess weight but it is not as easy as it may seem. Many struggles to keep up with exercise due to low self-motivation but at the end of the day, exercise is probably one of the most rewarding methods for weight loss.

Exercising for about 30 minutes per day would be sufficient enough for your body to burn away those extra fats in the body. Although energy for physical activity is derived from glycogen, continued exercise causes the body to start using up the fatty acids to compensate for the loss of glycogen. Fatty acids are one of the main factors in producing body fat that is stored in the body. Anaerobic and aerobic exercise are two of the main types of exercise and both these types of exercise regimes cause and increase  basal metabolic rate (BMR) that leads to additional caloric loss for some time after exercising.

Forget about those steroids that have overtaken physical exercise in this modern age as many today are just too lazy to get out there into the open and sweat it out. Exercise is by far the healthiest method to go for in losing weight and it can be practised at any part of the day.

Balancing height and weight

Are you much heavier than your friends at high school or office? Are you worried that you are overweight? Do not fret as many people go through this situation some time in their life. The term ‘overweight’ does not only incorporate the weight of an individual but also takes into account the person’s height. Weight and height are both related to each other in terms of determining if the individual is overweight as not all of us are of the same height and also vary according to genetic variations.

Weight varies between individuals where taller individuals will be able to carry more weight whereas shorter individuals are able to carry a smaller amount of weight compared to their taller counterparts. This variation in weight needed between people of different heights is important in maintaining a healthy physical posture. A healthy weight to height ratio can be determined by calculating the BMI or Body Mass Index of an individual.

Many individuals nowadays have opted to change their lifestyle as more and more people are beginning to understand the need to sustain a healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight allows us to stay free from problems such as obesity, high-blood pressure and eventually reduces the chances of high risk illness such as heart attacks and strokes. Height to weight charts is an example of comparing the suitable weight of a person.

There are certain limitations towards viewing height to weight charts in determining a healthy BMI as many do not take into account activity levels of a person. For instance, body builders are much heavier in relation their optimum height but this fact does not allow them to be categorized as overweight. Pregnant women are also not advised to compare their weight to height ratio as pregnancy causes an increase in weight of the mother but does not categorise them as overweight.

Health is one of the most important aspects towards living a happy life. Although some may argue that time is not at their disposal for activities to improve their well being, a healthy lifestyle should be taken seriously by all individuals no matter what age they are.
